Cat Sprays & Pees — Put My Cat To Sleep?

Stop Cat Peeing & Spraying

Got this upsetting email in regards to someone that wants to put their cat down due to one’s inability to stop cat spraying and peeing. I deemed it necessary to fill you in on what was sent to me, and how I dealt with the situation at hand. I think situations like this are quite serious, and as an avid cat lover, just have to voice my thoughts.

I completely understand that everyone is entitled to their opinion, choice of what to do in certain situations. However, I wholeheartedly feel that there has to be a more humane solution than to put your cat to sleep. Is cat spraying or cat peeing beyond frustrating and difficult to deal with at times? Absolutely. I for one can attest to that. But, no need to end an animal’s life for that reason. Worst case scenario, give the cat away, take it to a shelter … there are several things that can be done as an alternative. Doing so will be a win-win for all.

Regarding the email, the person stated they were at the end of their patience trying to stop their cat from peeing everywhere. They went to a vet, bought sprays, did everything possible, but to no avail. I totally understand, and I wrote back expressing just that. I offered solutions and even extended a hand to help the best way I could. After a few emails, we spoke on the phone once and had a great conversation. Overall, everything ended well with a great outcome. Although the cat was given away to another family, he is thriving now and all is well.

Whether trying to stop cat spraying or cat peeing, I understand that everyone’s situation is circumstantial and no two situations are exactly alike. I realize how frustrating all can be, and some cats may be far more difficult to deal with than others. I remember my situation, and how it required me to have so much patience. There was a process of trial and error, however, for me it was relatively short-lived and I found a permanent solution sooner than others have, and it has worked wonders ever since.

So … let’s recap briefly. Cat spraying and cat peeing frustrating? Indeed. Attempting to stop cat peeing and spraying … seemingly difficult. However, prior to putting a cat down because of this, please think and rethink prior to taking such a drastic measure to solve your problem. I realize so many things factor into fading patience: the pungent smell of cat pee, the cleanup process, attempting to train your cat, etc. The list goes on and on and will take a toll on anyone. Find a better way, be patient, and in all honesty as much as it pains me to say it, worst case scenario, give your cat away if need be. All may sound quite redundant, but I am just crazy passionate about animals if you haven’t been able to tell by now! Thanks for reading, and wishing all the best to you and your journey with your cat. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about my personal experience. Would always love to help out in any way I can.
